Under 16 Girls bow out in 2nd round

On Saturday the 8th January a very young 'Castle under 16 girls team played well in the 2nd round of the National Cup, but went down out to Tameside and North Riding in two 2-0 defeats. By beating Wirral 2-1 the girls came 3rd in the group, and coach Ant Viggars was heartened by their performance, indicating he felt that this young team would make the Top 8s again next season, which bodes well for this season's under 15s.

Germany beat England

On Saturday 8th January the England Junior Men came up against a very physically strong German team and went down to a 3-0 defeat. Their last game in this qualifying tournament is against the group favourites Belgium on Sunday 9th.

England sunk by Dutch

In their third match at the European Youth Championships in Latvia, England Juniors went down to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Holland. The Dutch hosted the finals of this tournament in 2009 with their own team performing well, so they were always going to be tough opponents for England.

The 'oranje' who famously won the 1996 Men's Olympic title beat England 28-26 in an epic first set which seemed to drain England who were beaten 25-14 in the second before recovering to 25-19 in the third.

England return to the court against Germany on Saturday the 8th. at 6pm GMT.
